Install and roll out the meinGPT Outlook add-in for users and Microsoft 365 admins

Outlook Add-in "meinGPT"

This guide explains step by step how to install and set up the meinGPT Outlook add-in. The add-in brings the meinGPT platform directly into Outlook so you can summarize email threads, ask follow-up questions, and draft replies.

Requirements

  • Supported versions: Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows (classic and new), and Outlook for Mac
  • Your organization may allow or restrict add-ins. If an option is missing, check with your IT team or a Microsoft 365 admin.

Installation for end users

From the store (AppSource / "Get Add-ins")

Note: Depending on the Microsoft Store or Outlook language, the add-in may appear as meinGPT or myGPT. If one name does not show up in search, try the other variant as well.

Outlook on the web and new Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. In the top bar, go to More Apps and then Get Add-ins.
  3. Search for meinGPT.
  4. Open the add-in and select Add.
  5. Optional: In the message view, open More Apps and pin meinGPT to the toolbar for faster access.

Outlook for Windows (classic)

  1. Open File -> Manage Add-ins. This opens add-in management in the browser.
  2. Open the Store / AppSource.
  3. Search for meinGPT and select Add.

Outlook for Mac

  1. Open Tools -> Get Add-ins.
  2. Search for meinGPT.
  3. Select Add.

Note: After installation, meinGPT appears in the read or compose surface under Apps / More Apps or as its own ribbon icon. Use Pin to keep it visible.

Organization-wide rollout for admins

Microsoft 365 admins can deploy the add-in centrally:

  1. Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Go to Settings -> Integrated apps -> Add-ins.
  3. Select Deploy Add-in.
  4. Choose AppSource as the source and search for meinGPT.
  5. Assign the add-in to all users, specific groups, or selected users.
  6. Review the configuration and complete the deployment.

After that, the add-in appears automatically in the Outlook clients of the assigned users.

First sign-in and usage

  1. Select an email. The add-in only works when a message is selected.
  2. Select Open chat.
  3. Create an API key in meinGPT from the user menu in the lower-left corner under Settings -> Integrations.

Troubleshooting

The add-in does not appear or cannot be opened

  • Restart Outlook and make sure all Outlook windows are fully closed first.
  • Check whether the add-in is enabled under Manage Add-ins.
  • On company-managed devices, confirm with IT whether policies or restrictions are blocking the add-in.

The add-in keeps getting disabled

  • Open File -> Options -> Add-ins.
  • Under Manage, choose COM Add-ins and then Go....
  • Enable the checkbox for the add-in and confirm with OK.
  • If Outlook offers it, select Always enable.

Privacy and security

  • Access: The add-in only accesses the current message when you actively open it or trigger an action.
  • Transmission: Content is only sent to meinGPT when you start a meinGPT action, such as a summary or reply draft.
  • Privacy: As usual, processing with the AI models remains GDPR-compliant.
